When people come together to help others, amazing things can happen. A few weeks ago, I attended one of my favorite charity events of the year: Citymeals on Wheels’ “Chefs Tribute”. Now in its 33rd year, this year’s theme was “The Grand Affair: Celebrating Chefs of the World’s Great Hotels.” From Las Vegas to Lisbon, Cape Town to Machu Picchu, some of the best chefs from hotels around the world participated, sharing their best dishes at Rockefeller Center in New York City.
This event is a delicious way to raise money to provide meals for Citymeals’ clients. Each bite is tastier than the last, and when you think the food can’t possibly get better, it does. I joined 1,000 other philanthropists, business leaders and professionals in enjoying the chefs’ remarkable offerings. And most importantly, the event raised almost $900,000 to deliver meals and a friendly visit to Citymeals’ clients, vulnerable home-bound New Yorkers.
Each year, Citymeals on Wheels prepares and delivers over 2 million meals for almost 20,000 of New York City’s homebound elderly. The organization says that for many of these older New Yorkers, their meal deliverer may be the only person they see on a regular basis. Imagine how much these meals mean to thousands of individuals. That’s why this event, and Citymeals, is important to me.
